Prospect Park Bike Rides

topic posted Mon, June 6, 2005 - 5:27 AM by  Slater!
ok people. I just got up at 7am and rode my lazy ass all the way around the park. And Ill tell you this much.... 7am is not early enough to beat the humidity. And GOD DAMN that hill at Grand Army Plaza. That was probably my wheezing that woke you up this morning.

Im going to the south of france in one month and I need to get my ass into some sort of shape. I'll be seeing the Tour De France so I figure biking is a good way to go. Im gonna do a couple mornings as a week and maybe a couple evenings with a couple beers afterward.

Anyone have any interest in joining, let me know. I could use someone to verbally abuse my ass up that hill.

You should check out Critical Mass in Brooklyn this Friday, I can't make it, but you should represent and give a full report--I hear it's interesting and I definitely want to start doing that.

I also applaude your unique mix of drinking and biking. Let me know, I might be down for some of the evening runs.

You two are up awfully early...

I'd be up for a bike ride.
Slater, email me and we can meet. This week, at the moment, I could do most mornings and maybe a night or two. But it may change since I'm temping for money.
Let me know just HOW early you're doing this. It may be a factor.

I'd do critical mass on occasion, but I cant get there by 7:00 unfortunately. Its easier for me to hit up the Manhattan one, but Im not much of a political movement kinda gal, and I dont feel so much like risking arrest... which is getting more an more probable as the months go on. Although I've heard the Brooklyn one is pretty mellow. The one in San Francisco is FANTASTIC.

Belle and Evan, will do. Im going tomorrow morning at 7am. Even though it only takes about a half hour.... it took me over an hour to cool down from it, even after a cold shower... so it was nice to not have to rush into getting ready for work.

Evenings for me will probably be about 7:30ish depending on how busy I am at work. My schedule is unpredictable. I also need to go buy a seat cusion. My ass hurts.

Belle--not up early, I just have nothing to do at work for the next two months, so anyone, please feel free to post interesting things for me to read or message me with any questions you've been dying to ask Evan, but been afraid or uncaring to ask.

Slater--cool. I don't don't know about mornings--I really like sleep. But an evening go-around the park might be fun, let me know. As far as CM goes, not too much of an activist myself, but I've heard it's a fun time and pretty chill and social, though I'm not too much of a getting arrested sort either.

You are all a bunch of wussies! 7am isnt that bad. I did it today. But actually I now have a 24 year old extreme sports mountain boy living on my couch and he made me do it.

Ill keep you all posted as far as the evening rides. Im up to my armpits in Burning Man now, and will be at least till theme camp registration on June 30th.

Luke thanks for the offer. I tried Bikram in India... I'll save that for the winter. Its hot enough already in my living room. :)

I'm in the park every day around 11-1130. I do four-five laps. 7 is far to early to be seeing me there. I don't wear spandex either.

True, you look much better wearing just that pink furry codpiece.

I've been riding around the park the past couple of days. I am so out of shape it's embarrassing. But I don't care if I'm passed by those swathed in spandex; riding slow feels good.

But the park is great! I love the section where the geese hang...reminds me of Mpls. and the lakes in the city. Those geese are vicious though!
Sticky, hot summertime in the park. <sigh>

Have any of you participated in those midnight rides in the park or to Coney Island? I picked up a flier at Time's Up in Manh. and there are a some rides listed. One looks like fun this Sat. to the First Saturday thing at the Brooklyn Museum but I must work so I can't go. RATS! The music this month is dancehall, rocksteady and reggae. www.times-up.org if you want more info.
